About the VRDJ World Championship
The inaugural VRDJ World Championship is a worldwide, online DJ competition presented by Tribe XR, hosted by DMC. This event challenges DJs to showcase their skills using only virtual reality equipment, with the winner being officially announced at the DMC 40 World Championships in Tokyo.
A. How It Works
- Submission Phase Each DJ must perform, record, and submit a 5–7 minute mix. Submissions are to be made via download link through a dedicated form on the Tribe XR website.
- The submission deadline is 11:59 PM PST on the due date, which will be announced separately.
- Videos exceeding the time limit by more than 5 seconds will be disqualified.
- Judging
- A panel of preliminary judges will review all submissions and select the Top 6 entries.
- A panel of professional industry judges will then review the Top 6.
- From this group, the judges will select the Top 2 finalists and choose the winner.
B. General Rules
✅ The competition is worldwide in scope. ✅ Contestants must be 13+ in age. ✅ There are no registration fees for competing DJs. ✅ Contestants must use Tribe XR virtual equipment only. All available virtual equipment within the Tribe XR application is fair game.
✅ Employees/Contractors of Tribe XR, Inc. may not participate in the competition. ✅ Tribe XR reserves the right to modify rules for competition integrity.
C. Judging Criteria
Judges will score each submission based on the following criteria:
- Technical Skill - 30%
- Mixing in Key / On Time
- Phrasing
- Use of Effects (FX)
- Creativity / Storytelling - 30%
- Multiple Genres
- Song Selection (Song Journey)
- Originality
- Stage Presence, Visual Presentation - 20%
- Body Language
- Use of the Backwall Video
- Camera Use
- Equipment Utilization - 20%
- Use of Vinyl Decks, Drum Machine, or Acid Synth
- Use of a variety of Mixer and Player functions
D. Online Submission Guidelines
❌ Edited videos are prohibited—all performances must be a single, non-stop recording. ❌ The use of any external graphics, logos, or signage is not allowed in the video. ✅ Video format should ideally be 16:9 ratio and Full HD (1920x1080 px). Other video formats will be accepted. ✅ Submissions with excessively poor audio or video quality will negatively impact judging results. ✅ Submissions must comply with YouTube's community guidelines. 🚨 Banned content, including nudity, pornography, or explicit visuals, will result in a competition ban. ✅ Tribe XR reserves the right to remove any inappropriate entries.
E. Prizes
The winner of the inaugural VRDJ World Championship will be announced at DMC40 in Tokyo on October 11th 2025. They will also receive the following prizes:
- AlphaTheta DJ Controller with a unique skin (model TBA)
- Tribe Swag Package
- Tribe Lifetime Membership
